Gem Testing Laboratory And eBay Sign A Certification Program MoU

In a strategic initiative, Global e-commerce giant eBay has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GJEPC’s India Lab, Gem Testing Laboratory (GTL) based in Jaipur on the 3rd January 2020, that will offer discounts on gemstones certified by GTL. The MOU was signed by Sanjay Singh, Regional Director of GJEPC and Vidmay Naini, Country Head of eBay.

GTL will offer certification services to eBay sellers at a nominal fee, without compromising on existing standards and protocols of testing. eBay sellers will obtain authentic reports from GTL Jaipur before their gemstones are delivered to their buyers. This agreement will boost the confidence of over 180 million eBay active customers spread across 195 countries. The GTL certification will ensure that global customers are assured of the best quality of gemstones which are Made in India, creating an edge for the Indian sellers over other global sellers.

Mr. Vidmay Naini said that eBay India is focused on creating online Retail Export opportunities for MSME’s and Artisans.

With the help of social media we will market the certification in US thereby increasing consumer confidence which will lead to higher sales. One thing I would like to highlight is that when you’re selling on eBay, you’re not competing against your own sellers, you are competing against the world sellers. we are partnering with GJEPC to enable eBay India Seller’s certify Gemstones sold on eBay marketplace.

India is home to more than 15000 MSME’s and Artisans exporting using eBay global marketplace platform.  Jewelery from India is one of the popular products across eBay global buyers and this is why eBay India’s effort is to build trust and saliency for Indian Jewelry sellers to enhance their business.

Mr. Vidmay Naini congratulated everyone that made the MoU a success and hoped that this partnership will open up more doors and more markets for the sellers and an overall win-win situation for everyone.    

Mr. Pramud Kumar, Chairman, GJEPC said that Jaipur is globally renowned for gemstones and the MoU arrangement will facilitate all types of gemstones to be certified including disclosure of presence/absence of treatments on gemstones as per existing criteria.  

He added that this strategic initiative will enhance consumer trust and credibility in the global markets and also help to promote brand India internationally through credible certification and help the sellers on eBay to build customer confidence as well as assist in increasing sales of Indian handcrafted gemstones & allied jewellery in overseas markets.

The Gem Testing Laboratory (GTL), Jaipur, is one of the oldest laboratories in India established by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) in the year 1972. GTL offers gemmological services to both domestic and overseas clients.
